F1's howl to echo over Hudson?

New York - Will a Formula 1 street race actually happen in the US, with the Manhattan skyline as the backdrop, in 2013?

Certainly the US' Wall Street Journal was reporting just that on Saturday (Oct 22), saying the announcement would be made next week of a race in Weehawken and West New York in June that year - the Weehawken Grand Prix... ye gods!

Looking at the image (above) of the area, it seems we could be in line for a sort of Monaco-in-New York event - imagine the ocean liners at the waterside. It's the kind of race being envisaged earlier this year for Cape Town.

The report quoted "two people familiar with the matter", adding that the media conference would take place in Weehawken, a New Jersey township on the Hudson River, on Tuesday. Perhaps just after the Cape Town street race?

If confirmed, it will mean the US will have two annual GP's with Texas set to join the schedule in 2012 at a purpose-built circuit near the state capital, Austin.

Back in August 2011 the WSJ reported that the mayors of Weehawken and West New York were discussing the F1 project with private investors.

Well, well, so they did!
