LONDON, England - Six Formula 1 teams will carry out tyre tests with supplier Pirelli in Bahrain now that the sporting regulations have been changed on safety grounds.
The International Automobile Federation said in a statement on Dec 9 that Red Bull, Mercedes, Ferrari, McLaren, Force India and Toro Rosso had accepted an invitation open to all teams.
The tests will be at the Sakhir circuit from December 17-19.
PREPARING FOR 2014
Regular testing is banned until 2014 under current regulations but Pirelli called for a dispensation to collect more data about the 2014 tyres with representative machinery. The first regular test of 2014 is scheduled for late January in Jerez, Spain.
Pirelli is keen to avoid any repeat of 2013's British GP blowouts that threw the sport into a crisis and forced Pirelli to revise its tyre construction.
The 2014 season will see the introduction of a new V6 turbocharged engine with energy recovery systems, in place of the old V8, with Pirelli outspoken about the need for more time to test the tyres.
