Alonso voted best driver

2010-07-23 10:34

Fernando Alonso's track rivals have voted him the best driver currently in F1.

The finding was published by the German newspaper Bild am Sonntag, who provided the anonymous questionnaire to each of the 24 race drivers.

Ayrton Senna was voted the best driver of all time by a large margin, with seven time world Michael Schumacher in second place.

The most aggressive driver is Lewis Hamilton, and the McLaren driver was also tipped by his rivals to fight for the 2010 title against Sebastian Vettel.

Monaco was voted as the most dangerous circuit.

As for the 'most beautiful woman' in the paddock, one driver voted for Nico Rosberg, whose Williams mechanics last year nicknamed him 'Britney' (Spears).

Most drivers, however, voted for the French reporter Marion Jolles.

Well, well, well..."Ayrton Senna was voted the best driver of all time by a large margin, with seven time world Michael Schumacher in second place." There is a lot more credibility in this survey, as it was done by the current drivers on the grid TODAY! As everyone has a right to their own opinion, I cannot knock thisfinding, but will add, that the only disagreement I have is that I've never fancied Senna as a the ultimate best driver. All the Schummi bashers, go run and hide, oh on emore thing. The Schummi fans do NOT bash other drivers, as much as the anti Schummi brigade.

I have my own opinions on these, but if the drivers themselves voted so, then I have to accept. I would have picked: Best Driver - Button, Most Aggressive - Vettel(his crashes with team mate...), title fight - Hamilton vs Vettel.

  • McLaren fan - 2010-07-23 11:55

Most whining driver: Alonso by a country mile!!! Most whining team: Ferrari by several light years!!! Best drivers? A tie between Webber, Button and Hamilton for me. Most aggressive, certainly Vettel. Title race: Webber, Button and Hamilton.

  • No news! - 2010-07-23 11:58

He's been the best for years!

  • Ebi - 2010-07-23 12:19

Well done Alonso. @ schummigo – why should we run and hide? Nice try at pre-empting the obvious response, that at last all the schumi critics have been irrefutably proven right, and his fans wrong. Schumi is neither currently the best, nor the best of all time. If neither of that was ever your opinion, then credit to you, for that is the main point (or rather fact) that we are stating. However, let’s see what idiotic remarks the other schumi supporters come up with! After all, most of them are so delusional that they consider themselves more knowledgeable than the F1 drivers and experts themselves.

  • McLaren fan - 2010-07-23 12:24

@Schummigo. No need to start getting ugly towards other bloggers. Smacks of an insecure little fiddly-willy. Schumcher was the best of his era. Senna would have kicked his ass now and any old driver these days can kick Schummie's ass!

  • Werner (Hamilton Fan) - 2010-07-23 12:37

They had to vote for him, otherwise him and Ferrari would have ran to the newspapers again claiming inconsistency and conspiracy.

  • Andrew - 2010-07-23 13:21

I agree 100%, I saw Ayrton in his heyday and the man was a genius..I will never forget qualifying for Monaco in 1990 I think it was, He out-qualified Alain Prost (In the same car)by 1,8 seconds!!!! Senna on pole, Prost 2nd but almost 2 SECONDS down!! Cant think Shumi has ever been THAT dominant over a team mate..Unfortunately for us, Senna died a few years too soon, as I reckon Ayrton would have been champion in '95 and '95..Bear in mind too that Senna and co had to change gears by removing their hand from the wheel and turn corners 1 handed..It is quite frankly irrelevant who finished 2nd or "1st loser"..RIP Ayrton Senna..LEGEND !!

  • 'Nuff said! - 2010-07-23 14:34

It's amazing how quiet the delusional schumi fans are now! You guys are absolute idiots for believing he was ever even close to being the greatest. The experts have spoken!

  • Jakes - 2010-07-23 14:42

I think it's extremely tight between Alonso and Hamilton. One thing is for sure though, they are both streets ahead of that overrated has-been schumi. So, are his fans STILL gonna be in denial??

  • fredster - 2010-07-23 14:49

Where on earth do they get this info. If you look at the points you should be able to see who is the best. Alonso is a cry baby and nothing else...

  • Joao - 2010-07-23 14:54

The problem is that facts always speak louder than what anyone thinks.....easy to add numbers of titles and GP wins to certified who was the best........Schumacher i beleive is the name

  • james usa - 2010-07-23 16:36

Senna????? most of todays drivers were 10 yrs old when he died. He may have been the bravest but bravery has a tendency to bite you. MS pulled Ferrari out of a deep hole lets see if Alonso can do it, my take ...No.

  • Agreed with No News! - 2010-07-23 17:24

Couldn't have said it better myself mate!

  • Jay - 2010-07-23 17:31

@fredster: READ...voted for, by the drivers...DUH! Thats where they get the facts from genius. Look, I'm over the moon with the result...Alonso is my boy, I just dont know if I totally agree with him being the best driver out there at the moment. Very difficult thing to vote on.

Going into the German Grand Prix the best driver at the moment is Hamilton; this could all change after the race. I invite you to read my blog and view my Formula 1 Rating System. It is based on a Hebbian Learning Neural Network model and has the capacity to learn. www.letterdash.com/whistleblower

How quick we forget...Schumi blitzed Senna 5-0 when they raced in 95. Let's not forget those incidents as well involving Senna and Prost in Japan....first corner wipe-out to win the title. Schumi by far was the most complete driver.

  • L Savage - 2010-07-26 10:08

Once again the anti-Schumi brigade show themselves to be idiots. Ayrton Senna died, but with his death the legend grew. Schumi on the other hand is still alive and kicking, and (perhaps foolishly) he has elected to try and revive his career instead of ending it on a high. The fact is that any objective comparison between the two is impossible for anyone to make because of the way in which Senna's career ended. It is a natural human response to stick the departed onto a pedestal - and emotion becomes a far more significant factor than logic or reason. Truth is, it is impossible to extrapolate what Senna would have become had he lived out his career, and impressive though his short career was, need I remind folks of the extensive list of drivers who were assumed would go onto great things, and then simply fizzled out? I am not going to be another idiot and proclaim who was the best. Senna was awesome, but what his true potential was remains, and will always be, indeterminate. Schumi on the other hand showed his true potential and achieved more than any other driver in history. Whether or not Senna would have achieved as much remains a matter of opinion and for that reason this debate can never be sealed.

  • Clayton - 2010-07-26 16:23

@psxkim, Senna was dead already in 95 so how the hell could he have blitzed Schumi! Some people and their idiotic statements!

  • Gabriel - 2010-07-27 01:24

For all Senna critics just gou and watch the first lap of Europe GP in 1993... nothing you say can challenge facts... he is the best ever

  • Samir German - 2010-07-29 00:05

Alonso is THE BEST F1 DRIVER EVER, I´m from england but this is the reality and we have to accept it. And we cant forget that Hamilton maybe is GAY.

  • Anthony - 2010-10-07 21:39

Sorry Schumacher's fan. Senna is the best ever!!! For just one Schummi's great moment, there is a dozen ones for Senna. Look for Schummi today... a medrioce driver!!!
