You may have noticed a little icon that looks like this at the bottom of all Wheels24 articles. So what is Laaik.it?
It's a mixture of a "social news" system and a "social bookmarking" site.
Again, in English please?
It's a site that lets you - as the users of Wheels24 - decide what news is important, cool or funny by adding and voting for links to content. In other words, you see something you think is really cool on Wheels24 or the web - maybe a news story about a man with 10 arms - and you add it to Laaik.it.
Now hundreds of other people agree with you, so very soon your item has hundreds of votes and floats to the top of the system - appearing on the Laaik.it homepage.
So, in short, you guys get to decide what the day's most important stuff is - be it funny or serious - by adding your own links and then "laaiking" and "dislaaiking" existing items.
So how do I get started?
Well, Laaik.it uses the same login system as Blogs - so if you already have an "account" all you need to do now is visit the site and start voting on things. If you don't have a Blog, you can sign up quickly and easily on the Laaik.it homepage.
Items are divided into three main categories:
1. Virgin Links - are links that have just been submitted and haven't got any votes (other than from the person who submitted them)
2. Upcoming link - links that have more than one vote, but not enough to make it to the "most popular" section. This is a good place to see new and cool stuff on the rise.
3. Most Popular links - this doubles as the homepage of the system. This shows all the top items from the last 24 hours - but you can also see the last week and month if you click on the appropriate links.
Remember - you can also "dislaaik" things - it's really up to you.
Great - I get the voting - now how do I put my own stuff in?
Easy - just click Add a Link at the top of the page (check you're logged in first) and follow the steps. Remember - be careful to put your story in the right category, otherwise it won't make sense to others and they won't vote for it.
Alternatively, if you see something on Wheels24 you want to rate, just click the "Laaik.it" button on the bottom of an article and follow the easy instructions.
It's a bit difficult to use...
