Brad Binder was looking to add to the three points he scored on his first MotoGP outing last week, but fate had other plans for the only South African in the premier class of motorbike racing. Today (26 July), Binder, riding the #33 Red Bull KTM Factory Racing bike, again showed his class when he went on a recovery ride after almost being taken out at the first corner of the race.

Having qualified in ninth, Binder got off to a good start and quickly found himself amid riders who are all vying for positions. But things went from bad to worse when Miguel Oliveira (Red Bull KTM Tech 3) got knocked off his bike, sliding towards Binder. Oliveira hit Binder's bike, forcing the South African off the track and having him rejoined at the back of the grid.

Being last of of riders, Binder began a fightback that took him up to 13th before disaster struck.

No! Brad's out!

Binder made the most of his time on the track and began raking in the riders in front of him. The KTM rider took only ten laps to find himself within striking distance of the top 10, but on-track conditions put a halt to proceedings. Like many of the riders, Binder opted for the Hard rear tyre and Soft front tyre. On paper, it seemed to be the better racing combination, but soaring temperatures had the final say.

While air temperature hovered around the 37-degree Celcius mark, track temperatures were over 68-degrees. As a result, riders began struggling with front-end grip, with many crashing out of the race. The same fate befell Binder as he somersaulted over his KTM, landing awkwardly on his neck and shoulder.

Fortunately, he walked away from the wreckage, but his race came to an end. It might not have been the result he was hoping for, but Binder has shown that he has what it takes to get the most out of his KTM machine.
