Scooter rider braves typhoon, gets hit by debris in storm

Cape Town - As the Western Cape and other coastal regions of South Africa are lashed by storms, spare a though for Taiwan. The island nation is experiencing its worst typhoon in 21 years.

News24 reports that parts of the Asian country has come to a standstill since the typhoon Meranti hit Taiwan on Wednesday (September 14).

Many surrounding nations, including China, are taking precautions as the storm heads for the mainland. Weather services are reporting gusts of up to 227km/h.

Although residents are warned to stay indoors, one rider decided to brave the torrid conditions outside. 

What follows is footage of a rider coming up short against powerful winds and being struck by debris in his effort to defy nature.
