It was June 11 2013 when Yamaha surprised the biking world with the announcement of its naked motard MT-09 - the first of what would be a larger MT family.
A year later and five MT bikes have been introduced. Yamaha says it is offering customers "an original and refreshing mix of radical styling combined with strong all-round performance and good value."
The MT-09 triple (together with the MT-09 Street Rally hi-motard variation) and the MT-07 twin have, the bikemaker says, shot to the top of their respective sales leagues in Europe.
Yamaha said the recent addition of the new MT-125 will bring a whole new streetfighter look to the 125cc class.
EMOTION AND INDIVIDUALITY
Yamaha describes the MT-09 Street Tracker as based on the MT-09. This new model is said to be a scrambler-inspired bike equipped with a range of quality components and built for riders who "searching for more emotion and individuality".
"Our design team has taken its inspiration from the dirt-track and added a touch of street scrambler influence to create the MT-0,"Yamaha says. The MT-09 Street Tracker has a matt finish to the frame and bodywork - "the ideal choice of bike for riders looking for a sporty but sophisticated look with a touch of vintage style".
The generous use of aluminium and carbon components are said to give the Street Tracker "a competition-inspired look that is sure to stand out on the street". The front has a short carbon front fender with aluminium stays and additional upper-body wind protection.
Aluminium is also used for the new side competition number plates.
AKROPOVIC EXHAUST
The fuel tank is equipped with new knee grips and the Street Tracker is also fitted with a two-tone seat featuring a brown leather top.
Yamaha says the combination of the long and flat seat together with the knee grips and new wider footrests allows the rider to shift weight during acceleration, braking and high speed cornering, to give an increased feeling of control and a more 'connected' riding experience.
Riders "looking for the ultimate MT-09 Street Tracker can fit an exclusive high-level Akrapovic exhaust developed for the MT family to give high cornering clearance.
