New eco-friendly Vespa

A powerful, eco-friendly vehicle, sipping only 2.38 litres/100km* and requiring services every 10 000km could well seem too good to be true, but Vespa disagrees.

Bike specs

Over the years, Vespa has gone beyond its commuting function, identifying the brand with a lifestyle that has its roots in values, beauty and respect for the world around it, the motorcycle maker said.

The Vespa LX 150 3V remains elegantly and unquestionably “Vespa” in its body shape while still being environmentally friendly, and is now available in South Africa for the price of R52 950.

CLASSIC VESPA

The classic outline is characterised by a round headlamp, rear-view mirrors in chrome-plated steel and a saddle height that gives riders control at all times. The 11-inch front wheel and powerful braking system ensures stability and a smooth ride.

The Vespa LX 3V also has the unique high quality solid steel monocoque chassis to provide rider and passenger with the peace-of-mind that they are riding a safe two-wheeler.

This Vespa uses a four-stroke, three-valve 150cc engine that is said to provide improvements in performance over its predecessors. Maximum power is at 9.5kW at 7750rpm and torque at 12.8Nm at 6250rpm. CO2 emissions, Piaggio said, have also been improved by 30%.

Riders will appreciate the increase in top speed as well as its improved fuel economy. Service intervals have also been decreased from every 5000km to 10 000km.

*Original Vespa information said 3.24/100, but was later re-quoted as a correction from the company's PR people.
