MV Agusta’s most exciting new model in years has finally entered production a year after its creation was announced,
The mid-weight F3 675 relies heavily on the striking styling of the larger displacement F4 - and give that that bike has been called "the most beautiful bike in the world", this makes perfect sense.
RIDE-BY-WIRE
It certainly won’t be slow out of the blocks with 94kW and 70.5Nm on call and the bike carries's an impressive list of electronic gadgetry to make sure it makes the most of every kiloWatt. The bikemaker says:
“Thanks to the MVICS system it is the first middle-weight motorcycle with full ride-by-wire engine control, including four pre-set maps and one personally tuneable map which includes traction control that can be selected through eight levels."
Even more impressive than the ability to toggle through tuning maps is the inclusion of traction control, launch control, wheelie control and quickshift.
The MVICS system can also be tailored with lean sensors that match the angle to traction and throttle to read the wheel slip and adjust the throttle opening, spark advance and fuel delivery for optimal safety and acceleration.
EXPENSIVE WHEELS
Also worth mentioning is the revolutionary counter-rotating crankshaft in the three-cylinder engine. Unlike traditional crankshafts which spin in the same direction as the wheels, this approach turns the crankshaft in the opposite direction for improved riding dynamics is generally limited to MotoGP motorcycles.
Pricing in Italy has been announced at the equivalent of R128 000 which positions it at much the same level as Triumph’s Daytona 675. Although the F3 is likely to be significantly more expensive if it comes to South Africa, at least it looks likely to be significantly more accessible than the MV Agusta’s F4 sibling.
