Double wins for Dunlop in TT

DOUGLAS, Isle of Man - In May 2013, Wheels24 reported on Honda marking the 30th anniversary of Joey’s Dunlop first Isle of Man TT win with a special tribute.

Dunlop's former team mate and Honda TT Legends rider John McGuinness contested the 2013 Isle of Man TT Superbike race with special livery on his bike on June 2.

In June 2013, the deceased rider's nephew Michael was in superb form, claiming two TT wins in one day by winning both winning both Supersport and Superstock races. His brother William earned a third spot podium in the Supersport class.

DUNLOP REIGNS SUPREME

Michael trumped long-time leader Gary Johnson in the Superstock race with rider John McGuinness taking third.

Johnson led by three seconds at the start of the final lap but Dunlop produced a remarkable last circuit to clinch a 16.5sec victory.

'NEVER SEEN ANYONE RIDE LIKE THAT'

Michael beat his own Superport lap record set in 2010 by reaching a speed of 205km/h. He also smashed Ian Hutchinson's three-year lap record in the Superstock race, reaching a speed of 211km/h.

Michael said: "It's hard to believe what I have achieved here. I gave it everything on the final lap and I just love racing round here."

An astonished McGuinness said: "I've never seen anyone ride the TT like that. I was speechless about how fast Michael was riding."

FAMILY LEGACY

Michael comes from a racing family with his uncle Joey having won a record 26 times at the Isle of Man and his father Robert a five-time winner on the course.

Joey died in an accident at a race in Estonia in 2000 while Robert lost his life at the North West 200 meeting in 2008.
