Along with Southern Africa’s Roof of Africa and Erzberg in Austria, enduro rallies don’t come any harder than the Red Bull Romaniacs race in Romania. Set in the Carpathian mountains across terrain that push man and machine to their absolutely limits, the event stretches over four gruelling days.
The 2011 event run from July 16 to 20 has just concluded, with Englishman Graham Jarvis taking top honours on his Husaberg 300 with Kiwi and 2010 Roof of Africa victor Chris Birch slotting into second place. Six-time South African champion Darryl Curtis came in seventh on his KTM 300 EXC.
Commenting on the fourth and final day Jarvis said: “It was another tough day and I had to keep pushing, because I knew that Chris would never give up. And then I caught a wire in my rear wheel, which sent me crashing and I had to work quite a bit to get that out of my bike.
“But I am happy to have won the Red Bull Romaniacs for the second time now! It is such a great race and I hope to back next year. The support from Husaberg and GoldenTyre was great and I appreciate this!”
