Remember his name. SA's Wade Young is one of SA's best motorsport athletes and he is only destined for even greater things.

Wade Young (Sherco Racing) won the 2019 Motul Roof of Africa in emphatic fashion, leading the three-day hard enduro event in Lesotho from start to finish. The victory is Young’s fifth at the event and third in a row.

In 2012, the Red Bull hard enduro rider became the youngest racer to win the iconic motorbike enduro race known as 'the mother of hard enduro’ and has had a close relationship with the event ever since.

"I’m very happy to take out the win after a long, tough season,” the 23-year-old KZN rider, commented after the event.

"The Roof has a very special place in my heart and is my ‘home race’ of sorts, so to perform in front of all these cheering South Africans feels good."

The 2019 event featured an Enduro Cross event as prologue time trail, which Young won. From there he never relinquished his lead over the two gruelling enduro stages in the Maluti mountains.

The podium was an all South African affair, with Scott Bouverie and Kyle Flanagan rounding it out.

The win caps off a highly successful year for the Red Bull hard enduro rider. Despite being sidelined for a few of the big events due to injury, Young won the overall championship of the American Hard Enduro series, as well as the Uncle Hard Enduro in South Borneo, Indonesia in late November and claimed the one-day Wildwood Rock Extreme earlier the same month. This, on top of a second place at Sea to Sky in Turkey and Extreme XL Lagares.
