MotoGP: Brad Binder looks ahead to the French Moto2

Ahead of the race at the famed Le Mans, we quizzed the South African ace on his race number and the design detail on his helmet.

Binder says: "I’ve often been asked why I ride with the number 41.

"Well, in the beginning, I started racing with number 14, but then when I moved up to another category in South Africa that number was taken already.

"So, I ended up flipping the number around, and was quite happy to do so because my favourite rider was always Noriyuki Haga, the Japanese rider, who rode with 41.

"He got a podium on his MotoGP debut at his home race in Japan years ago. I kept the 41 since then and it’s still going strong. I hope I can keep it for a long time to come."

The story behind the leopard logo on his helmet goes back to 2012.

“When I started racing in the world championship, my mechanic, Robin, made me a helmet logo and designed it for me. I’ve really liked and stuck with it since then,” he says.
