Biaggi wins 2010 Superbikes title

Max Biaggi of Italy has become Superbikes World champion after nearest rival Leon Haslam of Britain failed to finish the second of two races.

It's Aprilia rider Biaggi's first Superbikes World title with 413 points, 63 more than Haslam.

Haslam was forced out of the race with technical problems on his bike. That meant Biaggi didn't even need to finish the race but the Aprilia rider crossed the line fifth - to the delight of his home crowd.

Carlos Checa of Spain won both races to rise to fourth in the standings on 274 points. Jonathan Rea of Britain was third on 288.

The next races, at Mangy-Cours in France on October 3, will be the last of the season.
