BMW F800 GT heading for SA

CAPE TOWN - BMW has launched its successor to the F800 ST - the F800 GT. The new model is due in South Africa early in 2013.

The new model is powered by a two-cylinder 798cc engine capable of 66kW (F800 ST 62.5 kW) at 8000rpm. BMW has improved ergonomics, optimised wind protection and added a more practical luggage system for its “Gran Turismo”.

The mode benefits from new handlebar switches and a front brake-fluid expansion tank.

The new F800 GT is fitted with ABS, stability control and the electronic suspension adjustment and can be accessorised with an Akrapovic sports silencer, a slip-on unit that provides a particularly earthy two-cylinder sound. Made of titanium and stainless steel, it enables a weight reduction of approximately 1.7kg, from the standard can.

Load capacity has been increased by 11kg to 207kg and, BMW says, the seats are more comfortable.

As for the local launch, BMW comments: "The new BMW F800 GT will go on sale in South Africa in the first quarter of 2013. Pricing and local specifications will be confirmed in due course."
