New luxury Cadillac coming to SA

The Cadillac CTS boasts dramatic styling and new drivetrains, but the sedan's sporty character has also been honed at the demanding Nürburgring.

While it will be the first time CTS is sold in South Africa, redesigned from the ground up Cadillac's new luxury sedan is said to offer a high standard of equipment and a performance-oriented driving experience.

In Europe, 2.8- and 3.6-litre V6s power the CTS and both are mated to a six-speed automatic gearbox. A 2.9-litre turbodiesel V6 will join the European line-up next year.

Built at GM's Lansing Grand River facility, CTS's cabin is said to represent an evolution for Cadillac interiors. The cabin features the manufacturer's new "cut-and-sew" interior process that combines "advanced technology with the precision of expert craftsmen."

The new Cadillac underwent extensive testing at the Nordschleife circuit at the Nürburgring and Cadillac's development team was made to achieve grip and handling levels to rival that of sports cars while delivering ride quality of a luxury car.

It uses an independent double wishbone front suspension and a fully independent multilink rear suspension.

Models are fitted with a limited-slip rear differential and a high-performance braking system with ABS and traction control is standard.

The Cadillac CTS, which was short-listed for North American Car of the Year after its launch in September last year, becomes available in South Africa from next month.
