Hurricane Harvey has wreaked havoc in Houston, Texas in the US since the storm started on the 17 August. On Friday, the storm reached land – and brought the massive city to its knees.

The hurricane is the worst storm to hit the town since Hurricane Carla in 1961, ABC News reports. Ten people have been confirmed dead and many more have been left homeless and misplaced.

According to The Wall Street Journal, Houston mayor Sylvester Turner said police had rescued more than 3 000 people during the storm – 1 000 on Monday alone.

Residents of Houston were not instructed to evacuate their homes before the storm hit, which has led to thousands being trapped by the floods.
