Toyota has set the trend in the past with hybrid vehicles at the show, and 2002 looks to be no different, with the first local viewing of the Estima 4x4 Hybrid.

Toyota will also display a new fuel-cell hybrid vehicle called the FCHV-4.

On sale around the world

The significance of these hybrid vehicles is that they are no longer paper dreams, but are being marketed very successfully to the public in many countries.

Hybrid vehicles sold by Toyota in selected markets around the world, already total more than 100 000 units, and as environmental controls tighten, this number is sure to increase rapidly.

There will also be big news across Toyota's local lineup - from the new Corolla range all the way through to the latest Prado and Land Cruiser 4x4s.

Says Roger Houghton, General Manager: Corporate Affairs at Toyota SA,

"Toyota has been a market leader in the South African motor industry for 22 years, and Auto Africa 2002 is the ideal platform to reaffirm our position with new, exciting models destined for local sale in the near future. The theme of the display will be our current brand campaign 'Are You Ready For Pure Exhiliration'."
