The new Patrol

According to Nissan most of the bodypanels are new and the car has a bolder look than before. The revised front bumper has a smoother, more integrated look and feel, yet the design allows for the retention of the class leading 37-degree approach angle needed for serious off-road driving.

There are also new-look fog lamps are deeply recessed into the two-piece bumper assembly for greater protection off the beaten track.

The restyled rear end includes bigger tail lamps, integrated number plate holder and hard spare wheel cover. Purposeful wheel arch surrounds, colour-coded door handles and roof rails give the latest Patrol a modern, new look.

Built on a ladder frame chassis for the ultimate in off-road ability, the Patrol nonetheless has a sufficiently compliant suspension to provide a smooth on-road ride with handling to match.

Solid axles coupled to long-travel coil springs make for exceptional articulation. A rear differential lock allows the driver to exploit traction to its fullest, there's low-range gearing to ensure that no incline is too steep for the Patrol to clamber up.

It is available with two engine options, a 4.-8-litre petrol unit and a 3.0-litre turbodiesel.

The fuel-injected petrol engine, available with a five-speed automatic transmission, produces 190 kW at 4 800 r/min, while torque is 425 Nm at 3 600 r/min.

Power output for the 3.0-litre turbodisel is up from 116 kW to 118 kW while the torque jumps from 354 Nm to 380 Nm.
