Sun City - From Model T Fords to the latest Ferrari 488 Spiders, and everything in between. That will be the spectrum of motoring delights that awaits entrants and visitors alike, when Concours South Africa 2016 is hosted at Sun City from September 9-11, 2016.
The three-day event for the top collectible cars in South Africa is a first for SA, says organisers.
Cars for enjoyment
Apart from the Concours competition, there will also be a Show-n-Shine, with specialist vehicles on display while not being subject to the rigours of a formal Concours judging process.
Ross Crichton, one of the chief organisers of Concours South Africa, says: “This is an event that will become the premier specialist car attraction on the annual calendar.
"We plan to see it rival some of the world’s great Concours events in the years ahead. The Sun City venue is the perfect backdrop to create a unique blend of garden-party charm and glamour, and spread over three days it will be a weekend never to be forgotten.”

Co-organiser Paul Kennard says that the event already has commitment from a diverse range of cars for the Concours event.
Kennard said: "We have already secured the appearance of a Ford Model T, a Split Window Volkswagen Kombi and a number of British sports cars.
“We have a huge modern and classic supercar buy-in as well. Negotiations are also underway for the appearance of some special BMW cars from the Franschhoek Museum.”
Organisers state that there will be rare models from Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini and Maserati at the show.
A spot for Schumi
Kennard continued: “We are also hosting a special motorsport category, and the cherry on top here will be the appearance of the ex-Michael Schumacher Benetton B193. This car was raced by the seven-times world champion as he was establishing himself as a Formula 1 star, and is extremely important in terms of its significance in the history of F1 as a whole.
“In fact, the B193 was designed by South African Rory Byrne, who went on to design the series of championship-winning cars for Michael Schumacher. The Benetton still runs its correct Ford Cosworth V8 engine, and we will be starting this car up at various times over the weekend to keep crowd-interest at a peak."

Eager exhibitors
There has been interest from car collectors to enter their vehicles in the Concours, and rare Buicks and Cadillacs spanning the 1930s to the early 1970s are expected to be entered by well-known Pretoria collectors.
In addition, modified Muscle Cars and Street Rods are expected to have a huge presence at the Show and Shine event, run adjacent to the Concours on the spectacular Sun City lawns bordering the golf course and the tennis courts.

Crichton says: "Individual car clubs have been running Concours events for decades in South Africa, but there has never been a Concours hosted to encompass multiple makes and all the different genres of specialist cars in South Africa.
“We will be breaking new ground at Sun City, come the second weekend in September 2016."
