Land Rover has celebrated the production of the one millionth Range Rover at its Solihull facility, where three generations of the icon have been in production since 1970.
The one millionth car to roll off the line was a Range Rover Autobiography, finished in Ultimate Black.
Jaguar Land Rover’s managing director Phil Popham would drive the special SUV in a convoy of Range Rovers from the Solihull site to the Top Gear Live set in London where motoring personality Jeremy Clarkson would take delivery of it. Clarkson would accept the Range Rover on behalf of the charity Help for Heroes, of which he is a patron.
Said Popham of the event: “Everyone involved at Land Rover - from the management, to the employees at Solihull, to the original Range Rover team - will be happy we’re able to mark this landmark occasion in such a way after forty years of producing this iconic vehicle.”
The original Range Rover was produced for more than 25 years and two generations on, the sought-after luxury SUV remains Land Rover’s flagship model.
The line-up was updated in 2005 when the equally-popular Range Rover Sport was introduced. A third model, the all-new Evoque, will join the line-up from 2011.
