'The sound of a Cosworth BDG motor at 9 000 revs lighting up the start line in the pits way down the road is unholy. As if some mad beast from the undergrowth had been let loose on an unsuspecting public', writes News24 Motoring contributor Stuart Johnston as he shares the best parts of Classic Car Friday at the 14th Simola Hillclimb in Knysna.

One of the great pleasures of attending Classic Car Friday at the Simola Hillclimb in Knysna was sitting on the banking at the first right-hand bend and watching the cars haul hard up the hill to the next left-hander, about 500 metres away, heading for the sky.

It's a steep climb and taxes the older cars to the max, while, of course, the first bend is deceptive in that it can suck you in too fast and ruin your climb up the hill before it has really begun.
