Pretoria – According to the Department of Energy, the price of fuel dropped due to a strong Rand against the US Dollar on March 7.
This led to a decrease of the price of petrol and diesel by 19.33c/l and 19.68c/l respectively.
The decrease in the fuel price however will be short lived as an increase in the fuel levy is set to take effect from April 2018.
Fuel levy increase
In Finance Minister Malusi Gigaba’s maiden Budget Speech earlier in February, it was revealed that fuel prices would increase by 52 cents per litre; 22 cents per litre for the general fuel levy and a 30 cents per litre increase in the Road Accident Fund Levy.
The increase will come into effect from April 1.
