It is reported in Dutch newspaper Algemeen Dagblad that the 23-year-old has been offered a 2006 contract by the team to be rebranded 'Midland'.
Doornbos told the publication that the pay-drive offer was a 'good' one, but manager Marco Zecchi insisted that - before it is accepted - he intends to wait to ensure the quality of the 2006 Midland package.
"Robert's future is in my hands now," he insisted, "so I must not make any mistakes."
Zecchi conceded, though, that Midland looks like the best bet.
"Red Bull has more drivers than cars," he sniggered, "and Sauber will likely go with the same driver line-up." -GMM
