Webber penalty 'ridiculous'

Wheels24 reported that Mark Webber would slide 10 places on the grid for the 2013 Korean Formula 1 GP on October 6 for his joy-riding stunt at the 2013 Singapore GP. Webber hitched a ride to the pits on a side pod of Alonso's Ferrari.

Webber will retire from F1 at the end of the 2013 season and the grid penalty applied because he had two previous penalties during 2013.

Webber branded the reprimand as "comical", adding that "the fans loved it".

Wheels24 reader CRAIG WILLIAMS believes that it was ridiculous to penalise Webber and that Bernie Ecclestone should retire:

It is totally ridiculous to give Webber a penalty. It was a great show of sportsmanship by Alonso and showed the mutual respect between them. It was great to watch and, as Lewis Hamilton said, as long as it is done in a safe manner then it should be allowed.

It is time for Bernie Ecclestone to retire and hand F1 over to people who have motor racing at heart and want to see experienced racers race and not go at pedestrian speeds to save tyres.

I am sick and tired of all the petty regulations that are now in place in F1. Bring back the good old days of serious racing and implement no team orders and let the teams choose which tyres they want to race on. I think all would agree that Monaco was a farce this year due to the tyre regulations.

Most boring race in history in my opinion.

Wheels24 asks: So, Craig, and what would you have said had Hamilton collected and seriously injured Webber? Would you have demanded tighter rules for track behavour?
