Reader: Driver's disregard the rules

The attitude of South African drivers is the main cause of fatalities on the country’s roads, says roads and transport department deputy director general James Mlawu.

In reponse to the article published on Wheels24 in October 2012, reader Dawson emailed us to share his thoughts on drivers in SA:

I see many drivers going through red traffic lights and skipping  stop streets, and they are from all walks of life and drive a variety of vehicles.

I live down the road from a primary school, and the majority of parents, who drop their children at school, show a blatant disregard for road safety.

The fact that many people do not use their indicators, and have a total disregard of rule of the road, also has a huge impact on road deaths!
