The 2013 SA Car of Year finalists were chosen by a limited number of South African motoring writers who have narrowed the list down from hundreds to 12 models.
Vehicles will be judged in the metal in February 2013 for their aesthetics, build quality, ergonomics, fuel consumption, safety, handling, performance and - most important - value for money.
Reader Pvhiggo believes that the Porsche Boxster should be crowned the 2013 SA Car of the Year:
"On merit it should be the Boxster (see any of the authorative overseas and local reviews), [there's] nothing to touch it at the price.
The populace mentality in SA will no doubt give it to the Kio Rio - good value, but please, evaluate the drivetrain under the skin and not the bells and whistles.
The BMW 320i would be a better choice - it is a very good class leader in a very tough class.
The Ford Ranger, are you serious? As a bakkie it's great, but really now..."
