Beemers vs everyone: Gymkhana showdown

BMW Car Club Gauteng is laying down the gauntlet to all drivers for the 2013 Tarlton Gymkhana and Sprint Challenge.

TARLTON, South Africa - The Gauteng club is reviving a popular event of years gone by it says, and traditionally, BMW and Cobra went head to head on this unique event where car control is as important as outright speed.

BRING IT ON!

The event will take place at the Tarlton International Raceway just outside Krugersdorp in the North West on September 8 2013.

The BMW club said: "The event kicks off at 7.30am to about 5.30pm. Runs will start in the usual staging and line up area, through a twisty and challenging route between the cones."

"Once the little orange beacons of hell have been negotiated, the run ends on the 400m strip. The fastest time recorded will win."

It may sound easy, but only the best drivers will succeed. A change in the route or driving over a cone will give the driver a time penalty, so absolute precision is key. The club said there will also be 800m high-speed runs if there is a big enough demand for it.

As this a Motorsport South Africa event, an MSA licence will be required. For those who do not hold an MSA licence, a social day licence can be purchased on the day for R150.

Requirements to participate: A helmet - if you do not have one the host club will loan the driver one for his/her run, long sleeves, long pants and closed shoes also required.

Club members pay R300 to enter and R400 for non-members. For more information, please contact the event organiser Colin Van Son on 082 561 3000 or visit the website to register online for entry.
