Cape Town - Renting a Ferrari and impressing your girlfriend might sound like a good plan on paper but the reality is without training, a cruise behind the wheel of a supercar will end in disaster.
A YouTube video shows a 26-year-old crashing a rented Ferrari 458 Italia.
According to the uploader, the driver who crashed the supercar is the proud owner of a Subaru WRX STI. And in his mind, he probably thought that he could handle a 458 given his experience with the Japanase racer. He probably believed that there isn't much difference between a car that produces 225kW and one that's capable of 400+kW.
He rented the Italian car and took his girlfriend along for cruise.

'Mr STI' weaved through mountain pass, accelerating and braking - clearly enjoying himself. And who can blame him? Driving a supercar is tremendous fun!
You can hear the passenger shouting "This is really fast!" while he continues to wax lyrical about the Ferrari's power, how amazing the car is... And she's enjoying it!
At the 1min40 she warns him to be careful, as if she had a premonition that something is about to happen. If only he had listened!

'I was slow there'
After her request for him to be careful, he says that he was driving slow. She acknowledges and then he stamps on the accelerator. Why would he hit the accelerator around a bend?
He races up the mountain, she screams "OMG OMG!" in a high-pitched voice, he continues to accelerate, gears down and ultimately crashes. He literally steers the Ferrari into the barricade.
With smoke bellowing from the car's front, he asks the girl if she's OK. She gives confirmation that she is and he then goes into the mandatory meltdown. Warning: strong choice of words. He then says: "God damn it! I probably just lost my license."
