JOHANNESBURG, Gauteng - The case against a man accused of a much-publicised road-rage assault in Fourways, Johannesburg was postponed in the Randburg Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.

He's been named as Gregory Kleinhentz and - after an arrest warrant was issued for his non-appearance in court today (July 30 2014) after making bail earlier in the week - finally appeared in court with his lawyer soon after 11am - about an hour late.

They should have appeared earlier; his lawyer apologised and explained they were elsewhere in the court building when the case was called.

ARREST WARRANT CANCELLED

Kleinhentz' appearance was brief. Wearing a white shirt, black pullover, and trousers and looked directly at the magistrate while his lawyer apologised.

The arrest warrant was cancelled, bail reinstated and the case postponed to August 21 for further investigation.

Kleinhentz used a side exit to leave the court building and avoided a horde of photographers waiting outside. He got into a black Jeep Grand Cherokee and left.

REPORTED EARLIER...

JOHANNESBURG, Gauteng - A warrant of arrest has been issued for the man accused of a road rage assault in Fourways, Johannesburg, because he failed to arrive at court on Wednesday.

He was due to appear in the Randburg Magistrate's Court. The magistrate ordered his immediate arrest and that he forfeit his bail.

The attack happened on Witkoppen Road, Fourways, around 3pm on Saturday and was video-recorded by a witness and posted on YouTube.

The man who allegedly assaulted a driver during a road rage attack in Fourways, Johannesburg, was arrested on Tuesday. Police said: "He was brought into the police station by his legal representative and was arrested."

The man was released on bail and was to appear in the Randburg Magistrate's Court on Wednesday (July 30 2014) charged with common assault.

WHAT THE VIDEO SHOWED...

The attack, on Witkoppen Road around 3pm on Saturday, was video-recorded by a witness and posted on YouTube and later shown on internet sites such as wheels24.co.za, attracting thousands of viewers.

It shows a passenger - not the driver, as originally reported, getting out of a Porsche and kicking at the window in the drivers door of a white VW.

When the VW driver wound down the window he was apparently punched. A struggle ensued and the man grabbed what appeared to be theVW's ignition key and threw it away.

In an interview with broadcaster eNCA, the Jetta driver - who asked to remain anonymous for fear of victimisation - said he was punched in the face. He later opened a case of assault. He was quoted as saying:

"I was driving behind him and he was cutting off people left, right, and centre.

"So I went closer to see what kind of a Porsche it was and the passenger threw a can out the window at me," the man was quoted as saying. Then he threw another can and it hit my car so I hooted, flipped him the finger and asked what the hell he thought he was doing.

"He damaged my tracking device and stuffed up my side mirror. It all happened so fast I didn't even have a chance to think."
