In 2013 Honda confirmed ambitions for the Civic Type R to become the fastest front-wheel drive car around the Nurburgring in Germany. The car still faces a further two years of development before going on sale in 2015 but on-track testing has begun.

LOW EMISSIONS

Manabu Nishimae, president of Honda Motor Europe, said at the 2013 Frankfurt auto show in Germany: "We have recently spent a week at the Nurburgring, carrying out extensive testing. We are on target and have already set a time approaching the lap record."

Honda has also confirmed the Civic Tourer will achieve impressively low CO2 emissions from only 99g/km and an outstanding sub-four litres/100km when powered by Honda’s 1.6 i-DTEC diesel engine. The British-built Tourer builds on the strengths of the hatchback model, offering class leading boot space and practicality and will go on sale in early 2014.

Adrian Killham, project leader for the Civic Tourer, saaid: "The strength of the car is the synergy of functionality, versatility and dynamic design. We’re passionate and proud about what we’ve achieved."
