Luxury on tap in five-seat cab

DRIVING WORK-STATION: A lot of careful thought went into the design of the VW Amarok's centre console.
DRIVING WORK-STATION: A lot of careful thought went into the design of the VW Amarok's centre console.
The Amarok Double Cab, with the largest interior in its class, provides a pleasant ambiance for commercial users and private customers alike. It offers good all-around visibility that makes it just as easy to manoeuvre the 1.94m wide bakkie on tough off-road trails as in city traffic.

Comfort à la Amarok means that even stepping into the five-seat cab is exceptionally easy. The Amarok benefits from its four wide-opening doors and practical grab handles on the A and B pillars and has a front seat height of a modest 83.8cm above street level. The interior also sets new standards in the field for head and leg room aided by the bakkie’s impressive wheelbase of 3.095m.

Special head-restraints

The height-adjustable front seats deliver a level of quality that goes far beyond the norm. The seats have sporty contours on their side supports and their comfort and ergonomic properties have been optimised. In addition, the largest longitudinal seat adjustment range among the competition guarantees that drivers with body sizes beyond the norm also have a comfortable and safe seat position behind the three-spoke steering wheel whose styling is similar to that of the new VW T5.

Regarding safety: Specially designed head restraints on the front seats counteract whiplash trauma in case of an accident.

Three adults can sit comfortably on the rear seat. Here too, the Amarok serves up impressive space: ample legroom toward the front, head room upward and elbow room to the sides. The outer rear seat positions are fitted with IsoFix child-seat anchors and the compact transmission tunnel assures sufficient foot room for the passenger on the middle rear seat.

To optimise storage within the cab, the seats can be folded up with a 1/3 to 2/3 split. The rear seat backrest can also be folded.

ERGONOMIC DESIGN: The Amarok's aircon and audio console.

The driving position meets very high standards for ergonomics and controls, typical of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles. Two round instruments, designed for clear viewing and stylish looks, give information on vehicle and engine speed. On the Amarok Highline, they take on an elegant appearance with chrome bezels.

At the centre of the instrument cluster a large, easy-to read digital display shows additional information. Auxiliary controls for the 4MOTION all-wheel drive and power transmission functions are next to the gearshifter where they can be operated intuitively and are easy to reach.

High up on the centre console and directly within the driver’s view is the audio system. Located right under it is the heating/aircon control console. Climatronic, an automatic climate control is standard on the Amarok Highline. Climatronic air-circulation mode is indicated on the display of the RCD 310 infotainment unit.

Passengers can individually control the flow of fresh air through four large air vents on the instrument panel. On the Highline equipment line, the round nozzles have stylish chrome surrounds. The gearshifter also sports this type of surround. The Amarok demonstrates a high level of everyday utility in its numerous interior storage options as well.

Lots of storage

Its clever design satisfies practically all needs. The large door bins can hold 1.5-litre bottles in the front doors and bottles in the rear, for instance, and two cupholders are provided in the centre console.

Starting with the Trendline, there are also two cupholders for passengers on the rear seat, as well as a storage compartment like the one between the front seats with a cushioned cover that also serves as an armrest. There is also a sliding drawer under each of the front seats. 12V accessory outlets are located behind the gearshift, load box and in an easy to-reach bin on the instrument panel. Also new is what is known as the multi-connect point.

It can be used to install a hands-free phone, ring-bracket cupholder, ashtray or other accessory.
