Guarantee Value – a new concept in insurance

accreditation

Many South African drivers can’t live without their wheels.  We also know that some people are so emotionally attached to their car that they use the word “love” when referring to their ‘baby’.  But what happens when a car goes to the ‘scrap heap in the sky’?

It’s not something we like to think about but given the realities of the roads in South Africa, it is an important consideration when looking at car insurance, especially if it means having to replace something that is thought of so highly.

South Africans really love their cars

According to a recent survey from Santam, two-thirds of the participants said they are “very or extremely attached” to their vehicle, with 37% of respondents unable to function without their automobile.  Four in 10 South African drivers have gone so far as to give their car a name.

It seems we are connected to these assets like few others.  (While we use our cell phones every day, how many of us have a pet name for their mobile?) In the event your ‘baby’ is stolen or written off, are you confident that your car will be replaced – without hassle – by a comparable model?

Without car, but not out-of-pocket

Fortunately, Santam – South Africa’s leading general insurer – has introduced a new feature for comprehensive policy owners called guaranteed value insurance.  Created for drivers to add piece-of-mind in the event their beloved on four wheels becomes a ‘total loss’, the product removes uncertainty around what to expect as compensation during the claims process.

Available to drivers if the class of use is private, Guaranteed Value Insurance comes at a small additional charge on one’s monthly premium. As part of the annual review of a policy, the guaranteed value is automatically adjusted to the latest TransUnion retail value. While it’s not available to every driver or any type of car, if considering whether guaranteed value insurance is right for you, ask yourself: “how much do I love my car?”
