SA Amarok premiere at Nampo

Volkswagen’s Hilux-fighter will be shown to the public for the first time at the biggest agricultural show in the southern hemisphere later this month.

The Nampo Harvest Day in Bothaville, Free State is an apt setting for the bakkie’s reveal, considering it will be going head-to-head with market leader Toyota’s Hilux.

Graeme Birch, marketing manager of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles said: “The Nampo show offers us an ideal opportunity to introduce the Amarok to the South Africa public.

“Visitors to the Nampo show are mainly farmers who are amongst our key target customers for the Amarok.”

VWSA will also use the opportunity to show off an Amarok kitted with off-road accessories used as an escort vehicle during the 2010 Dakar Rally.

The Amarok double cab will be launched locally in the third quarter of this year, while the single cab will join the line-up early in 2011.

The Nampo show runs from May 18 to 21.
