Volkswagen SA has upgraded the power of its entry-level Amarok engine from 90 to 103kW though only in Trendline specification

The 13kW boost to the four-cylinder, two-litre, TDI engine enables it to accelerate to 100km/h in 12.6sec instead of 13.2 and reach 168km/h (previously 162km/h). Maximum torque of 340Nm from 1600-2250rpm is unchanged.

According to Volkswagen's public relations manager, Andile Dlamini, said: "The main adjustment was on the software  especially the engine control module to allow for the power increase from 90kW to 103 kW. The charge-air hose (connecting hose exhaust turbocharger to the charge-air cooler) was also adjusted."

The revised engine is available with rear-wheel drive or on 4Motion derivatives and a number of optional features include 17", 18" and 19" alloy rims, a communication package (multi-function leather-clad steering wheel and Bluetooth and parking radar.

An RCD 310 Radio/CD with six-speakers can be fitted.
