STUTTGART, Germany - The Mercedes M-Guard SUV, the latest special model from the German automaker, is so well armoured that it can withstand small=arms fire and even shrug off hand-grenades.
The M-Guard is based on the automaker’s M-Class SUV and sports a number of armoured modifications such as reinforced steel doors.
Optional floor armour enables the vehicle to cope with a grenade explosion.
MORE POWERFUL V9 AVAILABLE
Polycarbonate bullet-resistant glass is standard and the customised tyres enable the car to be driven despite punctures for 30km at 80km/h.
Powering the M-Guard is a 192kW V6 diesel and the car comes at a premium price owing to the many security features.
The model carries a price tag of R1.2-million. The M-Guard version weighs 600kg more than the standard M-Class.
A more powerful and expensive M-Guard variant with a 304kW V8 engine is also available.
