Australia - 'It's a freak actually. I can't believe it,' says a Toyota Hilux owner as his venerable bakkie passed the 1-million kilometres... even if his odometre won't move past 999 999km!

Australian radio station, FlowFM, interviewed owner Ian Moreland.

Moreland purchased the Hilux in 2006. Since then he has racked up many kilometres, driving throughout South Australia as part of his work in the cattle industry.

Why does the odometre read 999 999?

Moreland said: "It doesn't actually register a million. I thought it was going to reach 1-million but it reached 999 999 and that's where it stayed." He keeps track of kms via the tripmetre.

He says he has no plans to sell his venerable bakkie and that Toyota has offered to install a new odometre.

Moreland said: "It doesn't burn any oil doesn't leak any oil. It's a freak actually. I can't believe it."
