Kentucky - US authorities report that a teenager has been linked to dozens of vehicle thefts in Kentucky.

Ariel Mayan (19) is facing felony charges including the theft of at least 23 cars, totaling more than $360 000 (R4.7-million) reports Whas11.com.

Police say the teen recruited other children to assist in stealing vehicles, targeting some cars that had weapons stored inside.

It was also revealed that guns were found in the vehicles, with one of the cars having bullet holes on it as well as blood stains on the inside.

Sargent Steven Healey of the Louisville Metro Police said: "These individuals for the most part were not keeping the firearms, they were selling them, which you know firearms can lead to homicide."

"One of the biggest things we had in the case is that an individual actually had a camera system on their house and the investigation led from there, we've made five arrests in this case."

The other juveniles have been arrested.

Authorities continue to investigate as they believe there could be even more stolen cars linked to Mayan and his group.
