Cape Town - In a world first that fuses video games technology and real world driving skill, Castrol premiered its latest driving challenge - a head-to-head race with two adrenaline junkies and international driving stars.
The race, called Formula Drift, pitted professional Matt Powers versus UK racing and stunt driver Ben Collins (previously "The Stig") against each other.
Virtual reality track
The video sees rookie Matt Powers up against experienced driver, Ben Collins, as the pair race for glory on the sunlit tarmac in Los Angeles in a pair of Ford Mustangs. All the drivers could see was a perilous virtual reality track.
The 'track' featured an ever-evolving terrain of sheer drops and death defying twists and turns through their state-of-the-art Oculus Rift Kit 2 headsets.
Video games with real world skill
Fusing video games technology with real world driving skill, the cars responded in the real world on the track.
British race driver Ben Collins, famous for his role as ‘The Stig’ on BBC’s Top Gear and his stunt driving in the latest Bond movies (including Spectre), had to draw on his extensive driving experience to tackle uncharted racing territory.
