MOSCOW, Russia - Russia, host of the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, gave the equivalent of R1.2-million and a Mercedes to each of its gold medallists - even a 15-year-old figure-skater.
She also got a personal driver.
Russian prime minister Dmitry Medvedev handed over the keys to 45 new Mercedes-Benz SUV's and a the substantial cash prize to each of the country's Olympic medallists.

Silver medalists received R813 000 and a Mercedes-Benz ML, bronze winners were rewarded with R556 000 and a Mercedes GLK.
Russia won a Sochi-leading total of 33 medals - 13 golds, 11 silver and nine bronze. The vehicles were provided by the Russian Olympians Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation
