Watch: Renault's 108kW Sandero RS in action

Cape Town - Renault's new Sandero RS is an attempt to create an affordable "hot hatch" and targeted at the South American market.

The Sandero RS is the first Renault Sport car to be made in Latin America, at Renault’s Curitiba factory in Brazil.

Power

The new RS will be powered by a normally-aspirated 2.0 litre petrol capable of 108kW, mated to a six-speed manual driving power to the front wheels.

Renault claims it new RS can reach 100km/h in 8.0 sec and on to a top speed of 202km/h.

Design

The Sandero RS is more assertive that its standard variant courtesy of 17" alloys, dual exhaust, diffuser and spoiler and signature Renault Sport front (silver trim, air intakes and LEDs).

Inside it has red panels, contrast stitching, aluminium-look pedals and Renault’s Media NAV touchscreen with sat-nav and Bluetooth connectivity.

What about SA?

Will it arrive in SA? Sadly, Renault South Africa says "unfortunately due to the weak Rand and considering its price", the Sandero RS will not be sold locally. A shame though as it could be quite popular in SA, certainly more so than the discontinued Twingo RS.
