The company has been on a bumpy road but revenue has increased and the electric-car maker has found an easier way to swop depleted batteries for fresh power cells.
It has also gone from missing a 5000 car delivery in 2012 to building 400 units a week in order to meet its 2013 target of 21 000 models.

Tesla Model S models have a price tag equivalent of R620 000 - R870 000.
It has a claimed range of 335km/365km (depending on the model) or three hours when fully charged and, the automaker says, its supercharging stations are 10 times as faster than most public charging stations in the US and Europe.
The automaker claims its supercharger can recharge its Model S to 50% of its battery capacity in 20 to 30 minutes or 100% in about an hour. In practical application this would mean a trip from Cape Town to Johannesburg (1400km or 14 hours) would be covered in 18 hours given four stops.
