VW boosts Golf lineup

accreditation

The additional versions are 85 kW 2.0 Trendline and Comfortline models, as well as a 2.0 FSI Tiptronic and a 2.0 TDI Sportline fitted with the quick-shifting and economical DSG gearbox.

Coming in above the 1.6 Comfortline Tiptronic, the 2.0 version offers even more flexibility and torque especially lower down the rev range.

The maximum torque output of 170 Nm is available at only 2 400 r/min, giving more-relaxed cruising ability and better fuel economy. Top speed is 192 km/h, while overall fuel consumption is only 6.4 litres/ 100km.

Features

Standard features on all models include six airbags, height and reach adjustable front seats and steering wheel, adjustable head restraints with active safety system.

In the event of a rear crash, this system allows the seats and crucially the head restraint to move slightly forward to prevent the head shooting back and causing severe neck and spinal injuries.

Other safety mechanisms on all models include ABS braking, electronic brake force distribution (EBD) and ASR. Brake discs are fitted all round, ventilated at the front and solid at the rear.

The DSG gearbox, introduced in high performance mode on the GTI earlier this
month, is used in totally different application on the 2.0 TDI Sportline, demonstrating the versatility of this revolutionary transmission system.

Low fuel consumption

While automatic gearboxes normally have a higher fuel consumption level than the manual version on the same engines, the DSG is different.

Fuel consumption differences between the manual and DSG are almost negligible. For instance, the manual 2.0 TDI returns 5.4 litres/100km overall, while the DSG returns figures of only 6.1 litres/100km.

The 2.0 TDI DSG accelerates from 0-100km/h in 9.3 seconds, exactly the same as the manual, again showing the new gearbox's versatility. Top speed is also equivalent at 203km/h.

The 2.0 FSI Sportline gets a Tiptronic gearbox. The Tiptronic completes the 0-100km/h sprint in 9.5 seconds; with top speed 202km/h. Overall fuel consumption is 8.3 litres/100km.

The addition of the three new Golfs expands the range to 11 including the recently launched Golf GTI.

All the new models come with Volkswagen's 3 year/120 000km warranty, 12-year anti-corrosion warranty and a 5 year / 60 000km AutoMotion maintenance plan.
