Although Toyota SA is mum about the Aygo it is most likely destined for local introduction

In a media release the company said it will announce another new nameplate for the South African market at Auto Africa, with the introduction of another range of vehicles "positioned at the affordable end of the market".

Although Toyota is tight-lipped about which model it is, it is most likely the Aygo, which will be positioned below the Yaris. The Aygo is a small modern hatchback with European styling.

Since Toyota stopped production of the Tazz the carmaker hasn't had a competitor at the lower end of the market.

Toyota has been on an unprecedented launching spree of new models in recent months.

These include three new nameplates - the Yaris hatch and sedan, Fortuner SUV and Avensis sedan - as well as the new RAV4 and revised Prius
