TOYOTA CITY, Japan - Global sales of Toyota's hybrid vehicles over the years topped six-million at the end of 2013 - by 72 000, in fact - and the final million came in only the last nine months of 2013.
Toyota retails 24 hybrid models and one plug-in in 80 countries and the automaker is planning 15 more, among them the Harrier Hybrid in Japan (on January 15 2014) and the Highlander Hybrid in the US later in 2014.
FUEL COMBINATIONS
Toyota calculates that its hybrids have avoided venting 41-million tons of CO2 into the atmosphere and saved 15-billion litres of petrol since 1997.
Toyota has positioned hybrid technologies that enable the use of different fuel combinations, including the component technologies necessary for development of various environmentally friendly vehicles, as core environmental technologies for the 21st century.
The automaker says it plans to continue working to improve performance, reduce costs and expand its product lineup - including that of non-hybrid environment-friendly vehicles - to create vehicles that are popular with people.
