Taxi riders back driver in fight

Police are investigating a "road rage" incident that left a dozen people injured on Saturday (Jan 9 2013).

A police spokesperson said: "I am told that seven are serious,"

Those injured in the fight in Middleburg, Mpumalanga, were being treated at a local hospital but the exact number of people was still unclear.

PAINTBALL GUN

The attack happened after a minibus taxi driver's behaviour apparently angered another driver. The spokesman said: "The driver allegedly swerved in front of the taxi to stop it."

Each driver left his vehicle and an argument ensued before the car driver called for help. "When his backup arrived there was a fight that broke out between the group and the passengers in the taxi."

The taxi passengers also became involved and a paintball gun was fired.

Nobody was arrested but charges of common assault and assault with the intention to cause serious bodily harm were laid. The police spokesperson added: "We will have to investigate. The investigation will tell."
