SUZUKA, Japan - Nico Rosberg will start Sunday's Japanese F1 GP on pole - typhoon permitting - with Mercedes team mate Lewis Hamilton on his tail and Vatteri Bottas third for Williams.

It's his eighth pole of the season.

The rest of the top 10 will, in order, be made up of another Williams driver, Fernando Alonso, followed by Danel Ricciardo (Red Bull), Kevin Magnussen and Jenson Button (both McLaren), Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel and in 10th place Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen.

Hamilton, leading Rosberg by three points with five races remaining in the season, is chasing a hat trick of wins after starting on pole for the previous two races
