Rumours abound regarding BMW’s next generation M car but our spies managed to glean some details - and spot a prototype undergoing testing.

According to Friedrich Nitschke, MD of BMW’s M-division, the new model will have a "bigger focus on very low fuel consumption".
That’s a bit vague, yes, but at least we’ve found out what will go beneath the bonnet - a tri-turbo, 3.3-litre, six-cylinder engine capable of 330kW.
M-car fans can expect assertive styling and a light body courtesy of carbon fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) components.
We just hope it doesn’t get the front-end design treatment of its new 1 Series sibling.
The new M3 is set to make its debut in 2013.
