SPIED: Porsche’s baby Cayenne

2012-05-10 12:54

SPOTTED IN ACTION: Our spy photographers spotted Porsche's Macan prowling a construction site. Expect the new model to go on sale in 2013.

Our spy photographers captured images of Porsche's new SUV undergoing testing. The new Macan uses the same platform as the Audi Q5 and upcoming Q6 yet, despite its Audi influences, will display distinct differences in the luxury and power departments.

The Macan is tipped to have sporty valences and coupe-like body styling although, in these spy photos, the head and taillights and the fake chrome strip towards the rear of the doors are actually covered in stickers to fool viewers into thinking it’s a Cayenne.

You’ll, however, notice a large grille, lack of creases on the bonnet, a sloped rear and longer overhangs compared to the Macan’s larger sibling.

MACAN V CAYENNE

The Macan and Cayenne will be differentiated in their pricing, with the former offering more mainstream powerplants borrowed from Audi then tuned to Porsche levels, culminating with a 279kW V6 for the Macan Turbo.

The turbo variant would be about 60kW more powerful than the Cayenne base model. The Macan will reportedly be powered by the first Porsche four-cylinder engine since the 968 was phased out in the 1990s.

Expect the new Macan to be unveiled later in 2012.
