Despite the financial crisis and the huge economic problems General Motors was facing in 2009, Opel has received an order to develop an all-new model which could be the saviour for its factory in Bochum, Germany. Code-named “Small SUV”, Opel plans to launch the new model in 2011 and hence will enter a new market segment. They are confident that the new segment will continue to grow as more buyers considers exciting yet green models. From our spy pics, the new model looks like it’s using the Corsa chassis on the Meriva platform. The “Corsa SUV” production run is rumoured to be around 200 000 a year. “Anything below that wouldn’t make economic sense as we wouldn’t then be able to fill a factory," General Motors manager Bob Lutz said in 2009.
